Do You Wash Your Face After a Face Mask?

Do You Wash Your Face After a Face Mask?

It is simply not necessary to wash your face after you’ve removed a collagen face mask. Cleansing or wiping your face after your masking session could be scrubbing away some of its benefits. The serum that is left behind after removing a mask is full of hydrating, nourishing ingredients that could benefit your skin well beyond the 20-30-minute masking period.

Instead of removing the excess serum from your face, just massage it into your skin until it is fully absorbed. Using your fingertips or a gemstone roller, massage the parts of your skin that could use the extra attention. Or, you can smooth the serum down over your neck and décolleté.

Other reasons to skip the after-mask wash

Since you should be applying your mask to a freshly cleansed face, you won’t want to double up washes by cleansing it again 30 minutes later. Over-washing your face can strip scrub away natural oils, drying out your skin, or creating an oily complexion by tricking your body into thinking it needs to produce more oil.

Remember, using a tissue or hot rag to wipe away at your skin can have the same effect as washing, extracting some of the precious hydrating and nourishing components from your pores that you just spent 30 minutes putting in there.

Is there ever a time I should wash after a face mask?

Certain styles of face masks, such as clay masks, may need to be rinsed off to remove the mask or any remains of it. However, you still shouldn’t follow up with a cleanser. Using a soft and slightly warmed cloth to gently rinse away excess product should be sufficient. Be careful not to scrub too hard or use excessively hot water, as this can dry your skin.

What you should do after a face mask

Cleansing your face after a face mask is a no-no. However, there are some things you can do after your relaxing face mask session, such as moisturizing. If it’s during the day, make sure to apply your SPF before leaving the house. If you performed a masking ritual in the evening, you could certainly follow up with your night creams or any other favorite product you usually layer on before bed. Just wait until morning to wash that pretty face.

Hydrogel face masks made for lasting moisture

The best way to ensure that you are receiving maximum benefit is to use a hydrogel collagen face mask that locks onto your skin during your masking session and leaves behind a nourishing, absorbable serum after it is removed. Hydrogel masks also help to lock in more moisture and nutrients during the masking process for better overall results. Find your favorite collection of hydrogel masks at KNESKO. Every facial mask contains a near full ounce of nutrient-rich serum to be enjoyed, and never washed away.
