What’s a Chakra?

The Sanskrit word Chakra translates to wheel, or disk. In yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, this term refers to swirling wheels of energy throughout the body. There are seven main chakras aligning the spine, starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head. Imagine a spinning wheel of energy where matter and consciousness collide. This hidden energy is called Prana, or vital life force, and it keeps us vibrant, healthy, and alive.

These wheels of energy connect to huge nerve centers in the body. Each of the seven main chakras is associated with bundles of nerves and major organs, as well as our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states. Since everything is in motion, it’s critical that our seven main chakras stay aligned, open, and fluid. If there is a blockage, energy cannot flow.
