The COVID-19 pandemic and its restrictions has ruled our lives for over a year. We have all been forced to adjust. However, as vaccines roll out, a new normal is on the horizon—a post-pandemic world.
With the excitement that’s come with lessened restrictions, you might already be making plans to get back out into the world again. Enjoy that feeling—but don’t forget to prioritize self-care.
The transition into the post-pandemic world might present its own range of stress and difficulties, so it’s vital that you take time to treat your mind, body, and spirit.
Here are five tips to inspire your self-care in the post-pandemic world.
1. Be Patient and Accepting of Your Emotions
The outside world is much bigger than the one you built inside your home over the past year. Heading back outside, whether that means meeting up with friends, going back to the office, or eating in restaurants, has the potential to bring up stress, anxiety, or other feelings.
While you may feel pressure to re-connect and explore, it’s important to take time every day to check in with yourself and accept any negative feelings with compassionate patience. We’ve all been through a lot over the last year, be gentle with yourself as you navigate this “new normal.”
2. Find Self-Care in Connection
We are social animals and need relationships with other humans to truly thrive. Take care of yourself by reforging connections you may have lost during the pandemic. Call friends, family, and coworkers for chats, and then, when you feel ready, move those talks to real-life meetups for coffee, drinks, or even a walk in the park.
As important as it is to be patient with your emotions, you should also be gentle with yourself when it comes to re-connecting. If you’re apprehensive about large gatherings or find that it takes some time to once again become a social butterfly, that’s okay.
3. Honor Your Experience
Everyone will react to post-pandemic life differently. As the world opens up, there will be more and more opportunities to compare your life to others.
Instead of comparing, honor your experience. Just because something is popular on social media or within your friends group, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for you. Trust your intuition and focus on what’s best for you.
4. Return to the Basics
The basics of self-care—eating well, exercising, and getting enough sleep—are more important than ever.
If you found a new exercise routine, sleep schedule, or meal planning regimen during lockdown, stick to it. If you’ve been using quarantine as a rest period, challenge yourself to find a way back to a healthy balance that helps you look and feel your best.
5. Make Time for Yourself
Your calendar will fill up again before you know it. Try blocking out a chunk of time everyday for “me time.” You could spend 30 minutes meditating, reading a book, going for a walk, or sipping a coffee at your favorite cafe.
You can also set aside time each week for an at-home spa session. Draw a bath, turn on soft music, light some candles, and top it all off with a KNESKO nurturing treatment mask.
While the coming days and months might be overwhelming, you’re sure to come out on the other side. To help you get there, remember to care for your mind, body, and spirit and give yourself the love you deserve.
