Summer Skin Care Trends

Warm weather brings a whole new set of skincare challenges—from staying hydrated to preventing sun damage from harmful UV rays. We all know that SPF is essential during warmer months, but it’s not the only skincare product you need to nourish and protect your skin this summer.

Whether you’re visiting the beach or lounging poolside, here’s how to transform your skincare routine for healthy-looking skin all season long.

Non-Comedogenic Skincare Products

When swapping out products for your summer skincare routine, check the labels and look for products that are non-comedogenic. This means that the product has been formulated without pore-clogging ingredients.

As anyone who’s experienced a sweaty, summer jog, you’ll know why it’s important to use products that won’t clog pores. In addition to acne, clogged pores can lead to a wide range of skin issues, including breakouts and uneven skin tone.

This makes non-comedogenic products especially important for those with oily or acne-prone skin. However, during the summer months, these products can support healthy, smooth skin for everyone—no matter the skin type.

So, to support your skin all summer long, be sure to incorporate a non-comedogenic sunscreen, primer, and lightweight foundation into your routine.

Broad-Spectrum SPF

Even if you’re stepping outside on a rainy day, take some time to apply broad-spectrum sunscreen before heading out. UV rays not only lead to premature aging, dark spots, and a dull complexion, but can also cause skin cancer.

By protecting your skin with broad-spectrum SPF, you can keep your complexion beautiful and healthy. In general, dermatologists recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 for sun-exposed skin, including your face, hands, lips, and neck.

Depending on your exposure, you should reapply sunscreen every few hours, so be sure to pack some extra sunscreen for beach days.

Extra Exfoliation

If you have oily skin, don’t forget to add exfoliation to your summer skin care routine. Your skin reacts differently to sunscreen and makeup during the summer months, which can make your skin feel more congested.

Instead of exfoliating each day, start by slowly increasing the number of days you do this each week. To achieve an Insta-worthy glow and avoid stressed-out summer skin, use alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) pads to remove excess oils.

Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C is an essential component of any skincare routine, especially during the summer.  Applying vitamin C regularly can help improve the appearance of fine lines, prevent hyperpigmentation, and boost collagen production.

After washing your face and applying toner, layer a few drops of vitamin C and follow up with a light, hydrating moisturizer.

Combination Moisturizer

To help lighten up your skincare routine, try switching to a combination moisturizer-sunscreen during the summer.

For most people, lightweight moisturizers with an SPF of 30 or higher are sufficient to protect against sun damage from harmful UV rays.

Using thicker moisturizers during warmer months can clog pores, leading to inflammation and acne. Especially if you have acne-prone skin, dropping one step of your skincare routine can help you maintain beautiful skin.

Enhance Your Inner and Outer Beauty

While you prepare for vacations and beach days, it’s also essential to set aside time for self-care. Regardless of your skin type, relaxing with your favorite face mask is the key to refreshing and rehydrating your skin.
